"Until Then"
Performed by Melissa Modifer
This song was written in 2014 when Melissa was in her mid-20's searching for love. Having recently ended a relationship that made her feel more lonely than she'd ever felt being alone, this song came through as a message in self-empowerment, patience, and real love (spoiler alert - it starts with the self). The lyrics are like an affirmation that becomes an anthem. It's a statement of confidence, faith, and hope meant to ring deep within the listener. A message that says to believe deeply in one’s own worth and value and learn what love is through loving yourself first. The song uplifts the idea that we will always be here for ourselves along the journey of finding a romantic partner in this life and that Until Then, we can be our own best friend.
[Verse 1]
I might be alone but that don’t mean
I lack for anything
Just because I don’t have someone to hold my hand at night
I get by alright
For now I’m enjoying my time with
Me, myself and I
I truly love to be loved
But I’m taking my time
‘Cause real love starts with a seed
And I have planted one in me
And I’m learning to love myself
One day somebody else will come along
And fall in love with me
[Pre–Chorus]
I was blind, now I can see that I’m
Worthy of a love that’s so divine
‘Till then I’ll count my sheep
And keep living my dreams
[Chorus]
I said whoa I’ll just keep smiling
‘Cause I know one day I will find them
And oh, when that day comes I’ll be all in
But each day until then
I’ll be my own best friend
[Verse 2]
It’s true that I’m through with the ones who
Play games and talk to you
Like “Hey baby, I like your smile. Come over just for a while…”
Ha, thank you but I’m cool
You ain’t worth my time or energy
‘Sides what I really need
Is someone right by my side
Not in front or behind
Bringing out the best in me
I’d rather be alone than lonely
And take the time to love me
‘Cause it’s not until then that I’ll find a friend
Who’ll walk this life with me
[Pre–Chorus]
I was blind, now I can see that I’m
Worthy of a love that’s so divine
‘Till then I’ll count my sheep
And keep living my dreams
[Chorus]
I said whoa I’ll just keep smiling
‘Cause I know one day I will find them
And oh, when that day comes I’ll be all in
But each day until then
I’ll be my own best friend
[Tag-out]
I know one day I will find them
But each day until then
I’ll be my own best friend
I know, I know, I will, I’ll be
I will Until Then
